Gbakai is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Sierra Leone with 6 years post call experience. He is an Associate Partner at the firm of Tejan-Cole, Yillah, and Partners where his duties include amongst other things: Drafting various modes of beginning civil and criminal proceedings; Preparing contracts and agreements for corporate institutions and retained clients; Interpreting Statutory Instruments and other delegated regulatory legislation; Taking instructions and providing legal opinions including but not limited to letters before action; as well as Litigating and providing legal advice when necessary.
He has also served as Junior Counsel in a number of appeals at the Court of Appeal of Sierra Leone, some of which include appeals from the Commission of Inquiry (COI) of Sierra Leone, established by Constitutional Instrument No. 64 of 2018.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours (LLB Hons) Degree from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, and also holds a Utter Barrister Certificate from the Council of Legal Education, Sierra Leone Law School. He has practised law in Sierra Leone for over 6 years and has gained valuable experience in Contract Law, Commercial Law, Energy law, Environmental law, and other related legal disciplines.
